Coming off of a fantastic holiday weekend at the Skyline we are serving up even more fun.  This week we premier the all new Spider-man: Homecoming starting Thursday night.  Our second feature is Despicable Me 3. We are currently open at 7pm Thursday-Sunday.

In 1931, Richard Hollingshead Jr. owned and worked in his own automotive supply store called Whiz Auto Products Company.  Always on the lookout for the next great new idea, Hollingshead noted that even though the Great Depression was in full swing, people still found money to attend movies at their local theater.  He pondered the means to combine his auto parts business with movies and dreampt of opening a deluxe gas station and auto repair shop that featured a restaurant and movies for the customers to watch while they customers waited for their car repairs to be completed.  To bring his dream to fold, Hollingshead began by experimenting with the “outdoor movie” concept (and as he progressed, the concept morphed to exclude the gas station and auto repair business).

Super Monster Movie fest 2016 is right around the corner, in fact it’s August 26th & 27th.  This the 5th year for the Monster fest at the Skyline Drive-In and the movies this year follow the theme of “Don’t Go In The House”.  Keep reading to get the line up and information about each movie including approximate showtimes.  Remember this a true dusk till dawn event with free camping so bring your tent and make a weekend of it.

Our annual Independence Day celebration is happening Saturday July 2nd.  The gates open at 5pm and normal admission applies ($8 for adults, $4 for kids 3-11 and 2 and under are free).  Join us for four movies: Finding Dory, Independence Day Resurgence, Captain America: Civil War & The Dark from 1979.  There will be a free bounce house for the kids and of course our retro arcade The Skycade will be open all day & night.  Our massive fireworks show by Premier Pyro will happen after the first movie (about 11:15pm).  Stay all night and camp with us! All you need to do is bring a tent and there’s no extra charge.  And don’t worry we will have breakfast available...

Lexi began playing shows at 8 years old when she would step up during the set breaks at her Daddy’s shows and proceed to break every heart in the house with her sweet voice. Well, what to say? For starters, Merry Christmas to all! Secondly, thank you to all our patrons for what turned out to be the BIGGEST & BEST Christmas @ The Skyline to date. There was definitely an energy in the air last night….the cake from Sugar Coated Cakery was obliterated, the crab rangoons were vaporized, Santa’s lap was worn flat, the pinball machines were chimed out…money was raised for charity…..cameras everywhere capturing special moments…even a radio station showed up to do a piece on the Skyline. And the movies…what a great lineup of Christmas cinematic classics (and not so classics…lol) A special thanks to the dozen or so cars that stayed AFTER MIDNIGHT to watch the Drive-Insanity feature “The Magic Christmas Tree”...

‘Big’ announcement……we worked a deal with Disney and scored some Big Hero 6 swag to give away this weekend (and next) but the bigger announcement is we’ll be open for a special screening of Big Hero 6 with Alexander & the Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day this SUNDAY!!! Bands are to be announced for our first annual Nedfest music festival.  Tickets will be available online and at the Skyline.  A three day pass will be available for $20.  Daily tickets are $10 at the gate.  There will be three hours of music each evening followed by special movie presentations.  Gates open at 6pm each night during Nedfest so come celebrate July 4th early.

Monkey Wrench Madness will be at the Skyline tomorrow, Saturday March 8th from 11am-4pm.  This will be an ultra cool 1.5 mile obstacle event.  It’s free to attend and $30 to compete.  You can still register at the event.  Proceeds benefit the Skyline digital projection fund.  We’ll have food, fun and get a little dirty!

The Skyline has partnered with the 44 Family Flea Market in Shelbyville.  They have kindly offered us a booth to continue selling items to build up our digital projection fund.  We are in booth #43 inside their building at 1205 E. St.  Rd. 44 in Shelbyville.  It’s only about 3 miles from the Skyline.  We will continue to stock our booth with cool items for the next few months so stop in and check it out the inventory will continually change.  Also if you have any items you would like to contribute for the sale just drop us an email at info@theskylinedrivein.com or call our office Tuesday-Friday at (317) 398-6827.  Thanks for all of your support.

For those of you who missed Christmas at The Skyline last year mark your calendars for December 7th at 5pm.  Yes this is a real event.  We are the only drive-in around that’s crazy enough to do hold a Christmas event.  We had great fun last year and are looking forward to seeing all of you.  As always this is a free event sponsored by our good friends at Blue River Printing of Shelbyville.  We open at 5pm on December 7th and Santa arrives then too.  We will be showing The Polar Express and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation plus some extra fun stuff.  The movies will start by 6pm.  For those of you who were here last year you might remember we were accepting donations for Santa’s Protectors.  Well this year we are accepting for the Skyline’s digital projection fund...

On October 18th legendary horror film host Sammy Terry will be at the Skyline Drive-In.  He will be hosting our Hammer Film Fest and also performing not one but two of his famous stage shows.  He will be on hand for photos as well.  We will be showing Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Horror of Dracula (1958) and The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires ( a mash up of Hammer and the Shaw Brothers starring Peter Cushing).  This is an event you don’t want to miss.  Our Terror Trail will be opening early so the little kids can go through in the daylight.  But after dark only walk the trail if you dare.  We will be opening the gate at 5:30pm and the fun will start at 7pm.  So come early for a good spot.

Legendary horror host character Sammy Terry will be at the Skyline on October 18th from 6:30pm-10:30pm.  This is your chance to meet Sammy and listen to his ghoulish stories.  There is no extra charge to meet him, just buy a movie ticket and enjoy the show.  Sammy will also be introducing our Hammerfest movie night.  We will be showing three classic Hammer Films.  First up will be Curse of Frankenstein and then Horror of Dracula.  We will wrap up the night with The Legend of The 7 Golden Vampires.  Also don’t forget to walk our Terror Trail and help support our digital projection fund.  It will be a ghoulish time!

Good news!  We have just added a second screening of Going Attractions: The Definitive Story of The Drive-In Movie.  We will be showing this new documentary Sunday August 25th at 9pm and Thursday August 29th at 9pm.  Prior to the screening on Thursday August 29th we will be having another Sky Lanterns launch.  So come out and see a great doc and launch lanterns with us.  The lanterns are available at the Skyline for $5 and proceeds benefit our Digital Conversion fund.  Both screenings are $5 for adults and $2 for kids 3-11 and under 3 are free.

A month ago, we reported that legendary producer Roger “King of the B’s” Corman was starting a subscriber-only YouTube channel this summer called Corman’s Drive-In that would bring an extensive catalog of over 400 films he either produced, directed, or both to the Internet.
