We’ve got your Disney weekend planned!  Frozen II and Maleficient: Mistress of Evil are at the Skyline this weekend!  Both are continuations of prior films Frozen and Maleficent.  

Don’t let a little cold-air keep you from coming out and enjoying films under the stars!  Your car is designed to idle indefinitely and uses <1 gal of gas for a 2hr film. If you don’t want to do that – you can simply turn your car on every 45 minutes – let it heat up and turn it off for another 45 minutes.  Of course dressing appropriately and bringing blankets can do quite well too!

That’s right, drive-in season doesn’t end in October….no sir….this weekend we screen another installment of the Terminator series with Terminator: Dark Fate and the highly underrated Gemini Man — don’t let critics dictate your viewing – a lot of movies may not be critical darlings – but they can be fantastic films!

This weekend – the most anticipated film in years: Avengers-Endgame hits the screen with a special early premier on Thursday night!  Our 2nd feature will be an encore presentation of: Captain Marvel. And of course, that double feature continues on Friday & Saturday.

Some folks have asked – why not Captain Marvel on screen first….most obvious is that nearly everyone has already seen Captain Marvel – in fact we showed it for 3 weeks…..more importantly  Endgame is 3+hrs long – making it off the screen at midnight screening first!

For our 1st weekend in October we say goodbye to one film, but welcome a new one…..the 1st is our last weekend for the animated film Smallfoot….a yeti named Migo is convinced that the elusive creatures known as “humans” really do exist after a chance encounter with one!  Our 2nd feature is the film adaptation of  John Bellairs beloved 1973 teen mystery novel The House With A Clock In Its Walls” in which an orphaned 10 year old boy goes to live with his uncle, only to find there is more to his uncle and his kooky house than meets the eye!

For the last weekend in September one new movie and one ‘new’ classic…..the 1st is the animated film Smallfoot….a yeti named Migo is convinced that the elusive creatures known as “humans” really do exist after a chance encounter with one!  Our 2nd feature is the 1986 Director’s Cut of Little Shop Of Horrors ….now, we know you are thinking – we’ve seen it a million times – but you have not…first of all not on the big-screen in restored, HD and most likely not with the original restored “unhappy” ending the studio cut from the theatrical release and subsequent prints until a few years ago!  So see Little Shop Of Horrors the way director Frank Oz intended it to be!

It’s the 50th anniversary theatrical re-release of Yellow Submarine and Head – remastered in 4K!!  Join John, Paul, George & Ringo aboard their Yellow Submarine as they travel to Pepperland to fight the Blue Meanies! Join Mike, Davy, Mickey & Peter as they travel….to…..to be honest, if you can ascertain the plot of Head you need to have your head checked!

Well, in a couple weeks we will…

It’s a comedy-filled weekend at the Skyline with the hilarious I Feel Pretty and the uproarious sequel Super Troopers 2!   Amy Schumer stars as a woman struggling with insecurity whom wakes from a fall believing she is the most beautiful & capable woman on the planet. Her new confidence empowers her to live fearlessly, but what happens when she realizes her appearance never changed in I Feel Pretty.  When a border dispute arises between the U.S. and Canada, the Super Troopers are called in and tasked with establishing a Highway Patrol station in the disputed area in Super Troopers 2.

Look out Kaiju are on the loose!  Based on the 1986 arcade game, the Rock stars as a primatologist trying to stop 3 mutated gargantuan animals from cutting a swath of destruction across North America in, Rampage!  Our 2nd feature continues the Kaiju kraziness with the 2nd installment of Pacific Rim. Jake Pentecost, son of Stacker Pentecost, reunites with Mako Mori to lead a new generation of Jaeger pilots, including rival Lambert and 15-year-old hacker Amara, against a new Kaiju threat in Pacific Rim: Uprising.

It’s that time again…time for the Skyline Drive-In Theater season to commence!

Our double-feature starts with Lara Croft, the fiercely independent daughter of a missing adventurer, must push herself beyond her limits when she finds herself on the island where her father disappeared in the 2018 reboot of Tomb Raider. The second feature finds a group of friends who meet regularly for game nights, but find themselves trying to solve a murder mystery in the black comedy Game Night.

This weekend we usher in our yearly Skyline Scares with IT and Pet Sematary at your Skyline!

In the Town of Derry, Maine,  the local kids are disappearing one by one, leaving behind bloody remains. This week we continue with what may just be the biggest movie of the Summer, Spider-man: Homecoming for our first feature,  as well as what just may be the biggest animated film of the year,  Despicable Me 3 for our second feature.   We had to make a tough choice last weekend by showing the animated film 2nd so we could screen the highly anticipated new movie first, but this weekend, we figured it’d make sense to get the animated film on screen first.

Despicable Me 3 finds Gru discovering a brother he never knew he had, and fighting a new villain that just can’t let the 80’s go. And just because it’s the 4th in the series – you may be surprised to find it’s nearly as good as the 1st.

Coming off of a fantastic holiday weekend at the Skyline we are serving up even more fun.  This week we premier the all new Spider-man: Homecoming starting Thursday night.  Our second feature is Despicable Me 3. We are currently open at 7pm Thursday-Sunday.

So the super-cool, super-special advanced screening last Thursday night of Guardians Of The Galaxy Vol. 2 didn’t happen due to record rainfall in the area- we were thinking this may have been the 1st time we had to close due to rain – and it almost stopped us the next day – but thanks to the concentrated efforts of the staff – we opened on Friday night, albeit a little late but frankly the night turned out to be quite pleasant for those that came out.

As for the headliner – Guardians is fantastic family fare, the audience response has been great, the reviews have been impeccable – so what better way to see such a spectacle than on the big screen of your Skyline Drive-In!

The Skyline has partnered with the 44 Family Flea Market in Shelbyville.  They have kindly offered us a booth to continue selling items to build up our digital projection fund.  We are in booth #43 inside their building at 1205 E. Our warehouse sale on December 14th raised $2032 for digital projection.  Lots of great deals were had and hang loose because we will do it again in the spring.  Thanks to everyone who came out and supported us.  Merry Christmas to all of you.

Alright everyone don’t forget about our warehouse sale to raise funds for our digital projection.  Lots of great stuff for sale! Saturday December 14th 10am-7pm.

It’s being held at 55 East Washington St. Shelbyville IN 46176 which is the Skyline office.  It’s in the rear of the Blue River Printing building so come in the door on East Jackson St.  There will be signs.

For those of you who missed Christmas at The Skyline last year mark your calendars for December 7th at 5pm.  Yes this is a real event.  We are the only drive-in around that’s crazy enough to do hold a Christmas event.  We had great fun last year and are looking forward to seeing all of you.  As always this is a free event sponsored by our good friends at Blue River Printing of Shelbyville.  We open at 5pm on December 7th and Santa arrives then too.  We will be showing The Polar Express and National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation plus some extra fun stuff.  The movies will start by 6pm.  For those of you who were here last year you might remember we were accepting donations for Santa’s Protectors.  Well this year we are accepting for the Skyline’s digital projection fund...

To help raise money for our digital projection project we are having a warehouse sale on Saturday December 14th from 10am-7pm.  The sale is being held inside the rear warehouse of the Blue River Printing building at 55 East Washington St. Shelbyville In 46176.  Lots of cool things are going up for sale.  From movie and music items to computers, professional recording equipment and collectables we will have lots to sell at good prices.  All of this benefits the Skyline’s projection fund so mark your calendars and try to attend.  We will be accepting credit and debit cards and of course cash.  It’s the perfect time of year to pick up something you might need or find a really cool gift for someone.  For more info email us at info@theskylinedrivein.com

Terror Trail will be open every night dark-midnight through November 2nd.  Admission is now half price with a canned food item or a new or gently used baby item.  So at $4 plus a donated item you can’t beat the price.  Plus all proceeds benefit the Skyline digital projection fund.

On October 18th legendary horror film host Sammy Terry will be at the Skyline Drive-In.  He will be hosting our Hammer Film Fest and also performing not one but two of his famous stage shows.  He will be on hand for photos as well.  We will be showing Curse of Frankenstein (1957), Horror of Dracula (1958) and The Legend of the 7 Golden Vampires ( a mash up of Hammer and the Shaw Brothers starring Peter Cushing).  This is an event you don’t want to miss.  Our Terror Trail will be opening early so the little kids can go through in the daylight.  But after dark only walk the trail if you dare.  We will be opening the gate at 5:30pm and the fun will start at 7pm.  So come early for a good spot.

Legendary horror host character Sammy Terry will be at the Skyline on October 18th from 6:30pm-10:30pm.  This is your chance to meet Sammy and listen to his ghoulish stories.  There is no extra charge to meet him, just buy a movie ticket and enjoy the show.  Sammy will also be introducing our Hammerfest movie night.  We will be showing three classic Hammer Films.  First up will be Curse of Frankenstein and then Horror of Dracula.  We will wrap up the night with The Legend of The 7 Golden Vampires.  Also don’t forget to walk our Terror Trail and help support our digital projection fund.  It will be a ghoulish time!

Don Dzikowski: The reality is only a total of nine drive-ins, out of a total of some 120, will be awarded the digital projection equipment from Honda via Project Drive-in after Sept. 23. Please take a second to sign my petition to spur interest from The Big Three U.S. automakers to see if they’d be interested in following Honda, and benefit in the same big promotional opportunities and good will in helping to preserve a BIG PIECE of historic American car culture via helping to save additional drive-ins. Good news!  We have just added a second screening of Going Attractions: The Definitive Story of The Drive-In Movie.  We will be showing this new documentary Sunday August 25th at 9pm and Thursday August 29th at 9pm.  Prior to the screening on Thursday August 29th we will be having another Sky Lanterns launch.  So come out and see a great doc and launch lanterns with us.  The lanterns are available at the Skyline for $5 and proceeds benefit our Digital Conversion fund.  Both screenings are $5 for adults and $2 for kids 3-11 and under 3 are free.

A month ago, we reported that legendary producer Roger “King of the B’s” Corman was starting a subscriber-only YouTube channel this summer called Corman’s Drive-In that would bring an extensive catalog of over 400 films he either produced, directed, or both to the Internet.
